Projects Abroad in Vietnam

Arrival Procedures

A member of Projects Abroad staff meets volunteers at Noi Bai Airport, which is about 40 minutes outside of Hanoi city center. The staff member will be waiting for you in the arrivals area holding an A4-sized laminated 'Projects Abroad' sign. You will then travel to the volunteer house where you will be introduced to the other volunteers and will spend some time settling in.

Induction and Orientation

Your induction will be conducted after you settle in if you arrive in the morning or the following day if you arrive in the evening. A staff member will show you how to get to the office, which is only a ten-minute walk from the volunteer house. Once at the office, our staff will go over the Projects Abroad handbook with you and you will be able to ask questions. Afterward, you'll be shown internet cafes, the post office, where to change your money, how to get to each place from the volunteer house, and other important sites and landmarks. You will also be taken out for lunch to try some authentic Vietnamese dishes.

The following day you will be taken to your placement where you will meet the staff and people you will be working with. They will arrange your schedule and show you the ropes. Depending on how far the placement is from the volunteer house, some volunteers walk, some take motorbike taxis or regular taxis, and others take the bus. Projects Abroad Vietnam will give you a monthly transportation allowance, which you will be responsible for keeping track of.

All volunteers stay in one of our volunteer houses, home to up to 12 volunteers. The houses are located in safe, quiet, residential neighbourhoods, close to internet cafes, restaurants, embassies, and tourist attractions. Each volunteer will share asingle-sex bedroom and bathroom with one other volunteer. The rooms are spacious and have all the necessary amenities. The houses have a washing machine, a screened-in rooftop terrace, and a large living area. Each afternoon, a cook will come to the house to prepare dinner, which is served at 6 pm. The cook will also make sure that there are breakfast ingredients for the following day as well as food for lunch if necessary.

At the end of your placement, we will arrange transportation money for you to take a taxi to the airport in time for your flight home.
