Overseas Staff

Projects Abroad offers unparalleled overseas back-up for our volunteers worldwide. We employ more than 600 staff who are there to help you settle in and support you throughout your stay.

In every destination we have a Country Director and a staffed office. The staff in our destinations have a wealth of local knowledge and all our Country Directors have received training in Britain or the US and understand the needs of our volunteers. They are available by day at the local office, or 24 hours a day by phone.

Silvina García - Office Assistant

Silvina García - Office Assistant

Silvina was born in Cordoba, Argentina. In 2013 she gained a degree in English Translation. She worked as an English teacher for more than five years and as a secretary in a private school before joining Projects Abroad in March 2016. She has travelled to Chile, Uruguay, Ecuador and Brazil. In her free time she enjoys reading, watching films, making new friends and going to music festivals.

Kyle Daniels - Volunteer Advisor

Kyle joined Projects Abroad in 2015 as the volunteer advisor for Ecuador. Kyle studied Psychology at the University of the Western Cape. He is passionate about personal development and helping people realize their full potential. In his free time he loves to volunteer, read, run and spend time with friends.

Kristin Marin - Country Director

Kristin was born and raised in Belize. After studying Economics in the US, she moved to London to pursue a Master in Social Policy and Development. She enjoyed travelling Europe, South Africa, and Hong Kong during that year and hopes to see more of the world very soon! Kristin is passionate about criminal justice and aims for all the projects in Belize help to combat the root causes of violence in Belize.

Carmen Herbas - Country Director

Carmen Herbas - Country Director

Carmen has worked with Projects Abroad since 2003 and took over as the Country Director in June 2011. Originally from La Paz, Carmen moved to Cochabamba with her parents and brothers in 1998. Carmen is a graduate of the Linguistics Department of UMSS and enjoys spending her free time reading and with her son, Adrian.

Ouk Keobuntheang - Country Director

Ouk Keobuntheang - Country Director

‘Buntheang’ joined the Projects Abroad team in May 2014. Since 2006, he worked for the US Peace Corps and VSO and gained a lot of experience working in international volunteering organisations. In 2012, he graduated with a Master’s degree in Management from the National University of Management. In his free time, Buntheang enjoys traveling around Cambodia and overseas. He also likes playing ping-pong with his colleagues and friends.

Elaine Gao - Country Director

Elaine Gao - Country Director

Elaine joined Projects Abroad in February 2012. She grew up in southwest China and has done many voluntary jobs to help poor students in her hometown. She enjoys communicating with volunteers and helps them experience cultural differences. Elaine spends most of her spare time traveling around southwest China sightseeing and hunting for delicious food.

Luis Arguedas - Country Director

Luis Arguedas - Country Director

Luis joined Projects Abroad in July 2006 and has both Canadian and Costa Rican citizenship. Luis speaks English, French and Spanish and before joining the Costa Rica team he worked at the National University of Costa Rica teaching tourism and business administration. In his free time Luis enjoys going to the beach, cycling, watching movies and playing the saxophone.

William Puga Vasquez - Country Director

William Puga Vasquez - Country Director

William was born in the Galapagos on the island of San Cristobal. He has worked with volunteers for more than 15 years and has worked for various organizations, such as the Galapagos National Park. Besides being the Director for Projects Abroad Ecuador, he is also the town’s councilor for San Cristobal Municipality and has spent many years improving the local education system through government and community programs. William enjoys swimming and hiking in his spare time.

Minassie Alemayehu - Country Director

Minassie Alemayehu - Country Director

Minassie joined Projects Abroad in January 2014. He graduated from Addis Ababa University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology. Before joining Projects Abroad, Minassie worked as a teacher at an international school, a social worker and, most recently, a program manager at a charity helping orphans living with HIV. In his spare time, Minassie enjoys reading and watching football.

Ines Mariani - Operations Manager

Ines joined Projects Abroad in April 2007. She lives in Cordoba where she is studying tourism. She likes meeting people from all over the world and loves traveling. In her free time she enjoys being with friends, having barbecues with her family, reading novels and watching movies.

Emmanuel Abaaja - Country Director

Emmanuel Abaaja - Country Director

Emmanuel took over as Director in Ghana in March 2012. He joined Projects Abroad back in 2002 after completing his national service as a teacher. Emmanuel was Regional Manager of the Akuapem Hills for 8 years from 2004. Emmanuel holds a BSc from Legon University in Accra. He is a very active member of his local church and a proud father to his two daughters.

Kay Hendricks - Country Director

Kay Hendricks - Country Director

Kay joined the Projects Abroad team in February 2016. A native of Manchester, Jamaica, she spent many years engaged in developmental work with a focus on youth, community, the disabled and workplace capacity building. She has a Master of Science Degree in Human Resource Development and several professional certifications including Project Management and Training. In her spare time she enjoys travelling and relaxing on the beach. She believes in service with a purpose and enjoys participating in voluntary projects aimed at empowering marginalised people.

Olivia Tanui - Deputy Country Director

Olivia Tanui - Deputy Country Director

Olivia joined the Projects Abroad team in May 2012 and has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. She has previously volunteered with the Kenya Red Cross Society and has traveled abroad. Having been born and raised in Nakuru, she is glad to be working on projects in her home town. During her free time she enjoys martial arts, swimming and is an Arsenal soccer fan.

Nouanta Latsavongxay - Country Director

Nouanta Latsavongxay - Country Director

Nouanta Latsavongxay was appointed as Laos Country Director in 2016. Before joining Projects Abroad, he worked for over a decade for the Lao Disabled People’s Association, a leading organisation that supports people with disabilities. He is a leading expert in disability rights in Laos and he is heavily involved in advocacy work and in building strong working relationships with government ministries. He enjoys reading, watching news and sports, listening to music and playing table tennis.

Tojo Ramaroson - Country Director

Tojo Ramaroson - Country Director

Tojo was born in Toliara, Madagascar and has lived and worked all over the world for more than 20 years. He has a Masters degree in Development Studies from the Institute of Development Studies at Sussex University, specialising in global health (nutrition and WASH). Before joining Projects Abroad Madagascar in 2016, he was a content manager for a newspaper/magazine company called Circle Yemen in Sana’a. He also did some consulting in development with UNICEF Yemen and the French Red Cross. He enjoys a good political discussion, travelling, watching movies and playing with his four-year-old son.

Oliver Garcia - Country Director

Oliver Garcia - Country Director

Oliver is an experienced diver who worked for two years in la Paz Baja California in the north of Mexico as manager of a diving school, while he was also studying marine biology. He joined Projects Abroad in February 2005, just before we moved to our current Turtle Camp in Tecoman, where worked as the conservation manager. In 2015 Oliver become the country director for Projects Abroad Mexico.

Otgonbayar Togtuun - Director of Finance

Oko is both the Director of our projects in Mongolia and the Director of Finance. Oko has spent time working in Korea and the UK. He now enjoys living back in Ulaanbaatar with his wife and three children. Having studied for his MBA in Korea, he returned home to Mongolia with his Korean wife, Sang Em. He enjoys singing and is famed for his karaoke skills. He was 5 times gold medalist in athletics when he was a high school student.

Saad Rbiai - Country Director

Saad Rbiai - Country Director

Saad was born in Fes and grew up in Rabat. He has previously worked as a clinical psychologist for the American Peace Corps in Morocco and was also an Exchange Coordinator for the U.S. State Department where he organised cultural exchanges between American and Moroccan youth. Saad has taught Arabic and English at various International Schools and Embassies in Morocco.

Georgi Poparad - Operations Manager

Georgi has been with Projects Abroad since 2013. She worked for the Romanian and the Canadian office, but her continuous quest for new adventures and challenges brought her to Nepal in July 2015 when she joined the team in Chitwan. Currently based in Kathmandu, Georgi is happy to be part of the Projects Abroad family. She enjoys exploring the world, reading, swimming, horseback riding and dancing.

Irazema Arizabal - Country Director

Irazema Arizabal - Country Director

Irazema became part of the Peru team in January 2003. She was born and raised in Cusco and studied Business Administration at the National University of Cusco. She previously worked as a pre-school teacher and later an analyst credit investigator for various financial companies. In her spare time she enjoys reading, watching movies and travelling, as well as meeting and interacting with new people.

Stuart Timson - Director

Stuart Timson - Director

Stuart is from Cheltenham, England, but has been living and working in Peru since 1998. He studied Biology at Oxford University before getting involved with conservation in the field. After spending several years guiding for eco-lodges in both Peru and Bolivia he set up the Taricaya Lodge on the Madre de Dios river from scratch in 2001. In his spare time Stuart can turn his hand to most sports.

Ayessa Arnoco - Public Health Project Coordinator

Ayessa was born and raised in Bogo City and has always loved being around people. She is a registered nurse and previously worked as an English teacher and coordinator for non-English speakers. Aside from reading pocketbooks, she spends her free time experimenting with foods and eating.

Razvan Voica - Country Director

Razvan is the Country Director for Romania. As a trained forestry engineer, Razvan feels at ease with any subject linked to alpine and sub-alpine wildlife. He is also a passionate reader and only spending time with his family can take him away from his job or his books.

Seumanutafa Alex McCarthy - Country Director

Alex is the Country Director for Samoa. He grew up in New Zealand, but is proud of his Samoan heritage and culture. He loves traveling and moved to Europe after university where he experienced many unique cultures. In his free time, Alex enjoys watching a good movie, going to the beach and cooking. He believes Samoa to be a truly amazing island.

Amadou Moctar Ba - Country Director

Moctar first joined the team in Senegal as a French/English translator, but he soon fell in love with Projects Abroad and took over as Country Director in April 2007. Moctar used to work as a local English teacher and he remains a key link between the local community and schools of St. Louis and the volunteers.

Harry Kent - Country Director

Harry is originally from the UK and has been working in various roles within Projects Abroad for several years, including spending a year in Ghana. He has also worked in several other Projects Abroad destinations, including the Botswana and Nepal. Harry is now the Country Director of South Africa.

Dr Helena Fitchat - Conservation Director

Dr Helena Fitchat - Conservation Director

Helena has spent over 30 years on and off in the wilderness. She is an expert tracker, has crossed the Kalahari Desert on her own and lived with Bushmen for a year. She is also a pilot, a biologist specializing in animal behavior (for which she obtained her PhD), and she single-handedly navigated her way through the vast Okavango Delta in a leaking boat and survived! For 10 years she was the Operations Director of The Center for Rehabilitation of Wildlife (CROW) in Durban, South Africa.

Gishan Perera - Country Director

Gishan became part of the Sri Lankan team in May 2006. Before he joined Projects Abroad, he gained experience in many different fields, such as IT, Agriculture and Travel and Tourism. Gishan took over as the Country Director for Sri Lanka in October 2013, he is a very enthusiastic person who enjoys sharing his knowledge of the Sri Lankan way of life.

Glory Matoi Godfrey - Country Director

Glory took over as Tanzania Country Director in October 2012. She previously worked as Desk Officer and Program Coordinator after joining Projects Abroad in June 2010. She enjoys introducing volunteers to Tanzania. Glory has previously spent a year in Germany as a volunteer and has a good command of the language. She is best known around the office for her professional attire, ever-changing hairdos, and love of chocolate.

Parichart Chaipikul (Ant) - Country Director

Ant started working as the Director of our teaching and care projects in July 2007 after moving to Krabi from Chang Mai. She used to work in the shipping business. She took over as Thailand Country Director in November 2012. She enjoys working with people from all over the world and in her free time likes travel, photography and spending time with her boyfriend.

Kwame Wayo Adzakpa - Country Director

Mr Kwame Wayo Adzakpa joined Projects Abroad in March 2008 as Director for Togo. Before this he worked as a full time English teacher. Kwame studied English language teaching in the UK and has experience working with volunteers. He likes writing short stories and English Grammar brochures.

Phuong Linh - Country Director

Phuong Linh was born in Hanoi. Prior to joining Projects Abroad she worked for a Canadian NGO. She graduated from the Academy of Finance in Hanoi and gained an MBA from the United Business Institute in Brussels. In her free time she enjoys traveling, learning new things and going to yoga classes.
